About Visit Djibouti

Visit Djibouti is an independent media outlet devoted to travel in Djibouti. We are neither a tourist office nor an agency: we publish verified, dated and sourced guides, then point to verified local providers for booking. Our editorial independence is the condition of the trust our readers place in us.

Who we are

Visit Djibouti is a travel media outlet devoted to a single country. We do not cover the Horn of Africa as a whole, nor the world: we document Djibouti in depth, from Lake Assal to the reefs of the Seven Brothers.

Our editorial independence

We are neither published by nor affiliated with the Djibouti National Tourism Agency, whose official site is visitdjibouti.dj. That clarification matters: our name is close to theirs, and confusion would be easy.

Our role differs from theirs. A tourist office promotes a destination. We answer questions: how much a Lake Assal excursion costs, when the whale shark season really runs, how to get a visa, where to sleep according to your budget.

Our method

  1. Primary sources first. National Tourism Agency, INSTAD, official portals, scientific publications.
  2. One value per fact. When several sources contradict each other, we say so and we decide — we do not copy the contradiction across.
  3. No figure without a source. Information that cannot be verified is presented as such, never as a fact.
  4. Visible date. Every page states when it was last updated.

Our business model

Our pages link to dalmar.app, a booking platform that lists verified Djiboutian providers. The platform takes a commission on bookings.

That link is disclosed. It does not influence our recommendations: we publish guides on sites for which no offer exists yet, because the information is missing independently of any commercial consideration.

About

Frequently asked questions

Is Visit Djibouti an official Djiboutian tourism site?

No. Visit Djibouti is a private, independent media outlet. We are neither published by nor affiliated with the Djibouti National Tourism Agency, whose official site is at visitdjibouti.dj. We regularly cite its publications as an authority source, but our content is written and owned by our own editorial team.

How do you check the information you publish?

Every page cites its sources and carries a visible update date. We favour primary sources: the National Tourism Agency, the INSTAD statistical yearbook, official portals such as the e-Visa one. When a piece of information is not verifiable, we say so explicitly rather than presenting it as an established fact.

How does the site make money?

Through links to dalmar.app, a Djiboutian booking platform that lists verified local providers. When a reader books from our pages, the platform takes a commission. That commercial link is disclosed on every page concerned, and it never influences the editorial content: we recommend what we judge useful, including when no offer exists.

Can I report an error or outdated information?

Yes, and we encourage you to. Prices, transport schedules and contact details change quickly in Djibouti. Every page shows the date of its last update, which lets you spot old information. Report any inaccuracy to us through the contact page: we correct it and we date the correction.
